BodyShop

1931 Chevy

As it arrived at our shop

Note the entire structure inside doors and body are all completely made of wood.

Our first task was to chop the top 3 inches

After chopping the top the rear window was then narrowed 4 inches, and a new firwall is built and installed.

All wood has been removed from the a-pillars and doors and has been replaced with 1 inch square tube and 16 Gauge steel sheet metal.

Hidden hinges now replace the originals.

Body is Removed from frame.

The original running boards were not saveable and had to be replaced with a new custom made set. Then the fenders apron panels and new running boards were welded into one solid unit and later bodyworked to appear as one piece.

Body and Fenders have been Media Blasted to remove all the old paint.

Bodywork has begun on the outer body.

The trunk opening has been expanded to recess the lid into the body, originally the trunk rested on top of the outer skin of the body. Openings have been cut into the new rear body panel for tail lights.

The original hinges have been replaced with hidden hinge units and all the wood structure is now replaced with steel tube and the interior is primed.

Here you can see the inner structure of the bulkhead separating the trunk and cab as well as the tubs which replace the original wheel wells to accomodate 16 inch wide tires and a narrowed rear.

The bottom of the floor is cleaned and primed.

With the door handles, original hinges removed and patches welded in place bodywork is now the order of the day.

Fenders are bodyworked.

Particular attention must be paid to door gaps and body lines after chopping a top.

With bodywork completed the Fenders are now Primed,

While the fenders are off, Frame holes are prepped for welding and then bodyworked and primed.

Heres a peek at the four link rear suspension. Coil over shocks have been replaced by 1 inch square tube to mantain ride height while work on the body continues.

The roof panel is removed to eliminate a sunroof which did not fit the contour of the panel.

Roof Skin has been Replaced with a skin graft donated by a 56 Lincoln and Welded in place

Roof has now been bodyworked and primed

Support is added to the roof.

The inside window openings are painted in preparation for glass installation and the windshield visor is installed.

Closure panels are fabricated for the Lokar shifter, the brake pedal and the brake master cylinder.

A Vintage Air Heater/AC unit is mounted.

Power window regulators from Specialty Power Window are installed in the doors.

An actuator is installed in the trunk to operate the Rear Deck Lid.

The fenders have now been reinstalled on the vehicle.

Tinted Windows are installed and operational.
